It is with sadness that we inform you that Captain Merle Schnee passed away. He retired January 22, 1991 with 30 years of service.
Merle Schnee of Edmonton passed away on December 15, 2022, at the age of 89 years. Merle is survived by his daughter, Rhonda of Edmonton; and brother, Harold (Erma) of Medicine Hat. Also left to cherish his memory are many in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by his wife, Mary; parents, Henry and Lela; and six siblings, Marion Wooden, Neil, Theda Lloyd, Alice Larson, Dale and Harvey.
Merle was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta and grew up on the family farm southwest of the city in the Conquerville area. He worked for CN Rail for a few years before joining the Edmonton Fire Department, retiring as a captain. He was an advocate and was very active with the Fire Fighters' Union, in various government elections, running sign campaigns for many candidates, and with seniors' organizations later in life. He liked to tinker around the garage and work on projects, often helping his daughter, and helping his wife plant many flowers in the yard. Thank you to all the staff at Jubilee Lodge Nursing Home, where he spent the last few years. Dad, you will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed.
As per his wishes, no funeral service will be held. In lieu of other tributes if one so desires, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Edmonton Fire Fighters Burn Treatment Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
