Walter came on September 14, 1951 and retired as a Captain on January 1, 1982.
Walter Chipchar Sr., of Smoky Lake, passed away peacefully on April 6th, 2021, at the age of 92. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a talented athlete, and a humble man who revelled in the simple pleasures of country life. He was a long serving member of Local 209 of the City of Edmonton Fire Department. Walter Sr. is predeceased by his parents, Sophie and Fred Chipchar of Mundare, three brothers, one sister, his wife and great love, Anne Melnyk and their daughter, Catherine. He is survived by his two sons, Walter Jr. (Karen) and Dan; four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren; his sisters, Sophie and Justin; sister-in-law, Janet; and their families. A private celebration of life will be held amongst immediate family at a later date.
